Flipped vehicle on freeway

Move Over

How to Avoid Crashing into Troopers

1

Slow Down

Before you get near the crash site.

You should be going under the posted speed limit to begin with.
2

Move Over

If it is clear and safe to do so.

If you can’t move over a whole lane, don’t panic – move as far to the left or right in your lane as possible.
3

Look Ahead

Look where you want to go.

Do NOT look at the vehicles on the shoulder. Focus on the road and look at the path you want to follow.

⚠️ Do Not Brake Suddenly

Sudden braking can cause you to slide into the cars stopped on the shoulder or cause a chain reaction behind you. Slow down gradually before you reach the scene.

Move Fender Benders Off The Freeway

The road shoulder is dangerous – even when roads are dry. If you are involved in a minor crash and the vehicle is drivable, move to the next exit or a safe location off the highway.

The Reality of the Road

Every year, Troopers are hit and injured while working on the shoulder. These crashes are 100% preventable.

Watch: Why It Matters

This happens every winter. Please, help keep your Trooper safe – SLOW DOWN, MOVE OVER.
